Saint Francis Baseball Advances To 1A Region Semifinals

The season of firsts continues for the Saint Francis Catholic Wolves baseball program.

Third seed Saint Francis, led by coach Rob Brown, take a 21-7 record into Monday’s 1A-Region 2 Semifinal against two seed Orangewood Christian (17-9) at 7 p.m. in Maitland. Game 2 is at 7 p.m. Tuesday with the if-necessary Game 3 on Thursday.

The Wolves, fresh off winning their first district tournament championship, won the three-game region quarterfinal against district rival Oak Hall, 9-7, Thursday at Roger Maris Field. Saint Francis finished 5-1 against Oak Hall this season.

“It’s incredible, honestly,” Brown, who has led the Wolves to the program-best 21 wins, told Mainstreet Daily News. “It’s kind of surreal. This team just fights. We feel like we’re never out of a game. When the game is on the line, these guys just don’t get tense. They flourish. They shine. Man, I’m so proud of them.”

Orangewood Christian swept No. 7 seed The First Academy (Orlando), 9-0 and 10-1, in its regional quarterfinal.
