Gators Making Mark In Show

The 2025 MLB season is underway, and plenty of former Florida players are hitting the diamond. Florida baseball stars traded in the orange and blue for their major league threads. Players across the league are making their mark in hopes of playing in October.

Pete Alonso

One of, if not the most notable former Gator in the pros is Pete Alonso. The “polar bear” made his major league debut for the New York Mets back in 2019. The first baseman won the National League Rookie of the Year award and is a four-time All-Star. Alonso has already cemented himself as one of the best to wear a Mets uniform. He ranks third in home runs and sixth in RBIs in New York history. He has also led the team to the postseason twice in the last three years, including one NLCS appearance.

Wyatt Langford

The Texas Rangers leftfielder Wyatt Langford has made a name for himself in his short major league tenure. The former fourth overall pick in 2023 finished last season with 126 hits and 74 RBIs. While at Florida, Langford helped the Gators to the College World Series and was named a unanimous first-team All-American.

Brady Singer and Jonathan India

Right-handed pitcher Brady Singer spent his first five seasons in the pros with the Kansas City Royals before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds’ trade package for Singer? None other than former Florida standout Jonathan India. Singer’s sixth season has started off well; he has posted three wins and 24 strikeouts for the National League team.

India, a former 2015 fifth overall pick, has posted nearly 500 hits and 233 RBIs. The new Royal is also off to a hot start with his new team, with 16 hits in just 22 games.

Harrison Bader

Harrison Bader was a Gator from 2013-2015. The new Minnesota Twins center fielder has bounced from team to team in his nine years in the majors. Bader was drafted by St. Louis and remained a Cardinal until 2022 when he joined the New York Yankees. Following his time in New York, he had a brief 14-game stint with Cincinnati. He spent another year in NYC, this time with the Mets for their deep 2024 postseason run. He finally ended up in Minnesota, where he has posted 14 hits in his first 21 games as a Twin.

Honorable Mention: Jac Caglianone

While Jac Caglianone is in the Kansas City Royals minor league circuit, he is making headlines across the sport. “Cags” was drafted sixth overall in this year’s draft and hit the ground running. He was a major piece of Florida’s College World Series run last year, earning a 2024 unanimous first team Academic All-American nod. The first baseman already has 47 hits in the minors, including his first Double-A homer being a 464-foot shot. He also posted a .500 batting average during spring training, coming off the tail of his record-setting career at Florida.
