Unfinished Business: Buchholz Dominates Regular Season, Sets Sight On Championship Run

The Buchholz Bobcats didn’t just play through the 2025 high school baseball season, they stormed it. With a 26–1 record, they turned the regular season into a statement.

From opening day in February to the final regular-season pitch in April, Buchholz dominated not only Gainesville and the state, but made noise on the national stage.

The Bobcats climbed to No. 5 in the Florida state rankings and were one of just two teams in the state’s top 10 to finish with only one loss. The other? National powerhouse IMG Academy of Bradenton, ranked No. 1 in the country.

Nationally, Buchholz closed the regular season at No. 16 — the program’s highest finish since 2007–08, when it landed at No. 100 nationally and No. 10 in the state.

Buchholz rattled off 22 consecutive wins before falling 10–4 on the road to Tallahassee Lincoln. It marked the team’s best start to a season since 2007–08, when the Bobcats opened with seven consecutive wins. During this year’s streak, they outscored opponents 156–49 and rarely looked rattled.

The season featured multiple statement wins. Buchholz opened the year with a 13–1 rout of Fleming Island on Feb. 11. In March, the Bobcats secured a pair of extra-inning victories — 5–3 against Colquitt County (Ga.) and 3–1 against Farragut (Tenn.) — showing they can perform in high-pressure situations.

With their dominant regular season, the Bobcats entered the Class 6A-District 2 Tournament as the No. 1 seed. They survived a tight 3–2 contest against Ocala Forest on April 15 before defeating Tocoi Creek 12–2 two days later to claim their third consecutive championship.

That win locked up the Bobcats’ spot in the FHSAA 6A State Championships, where they earned a No. 1 seed. They’ll host the first two games of their best-of-three regional quarterfinal series Wednesday against First Coast High School of Jacksonville.

Buchholz is back in the postseason with unfinished business. Last season, the Bobcats made their first trip to the state final four and advanced to the championship game before a 10–3 loss to William T. Dwyer High School. This year, they’re aiming not just to return — but to finish the job.

The 2025 FHSAA 6A Baseball State Championships await and Buchholz looks ready to take another swing at history.
