The reigning champion and No. 2 team in the Eastern Conference Boston Celtics defeated the Orlando Magic 103-86 in game one of the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
Orlando landed a spot in the playoffs after beating Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks in the first game of the play-in tournament. Guard Cole Anthony contributed 26 points off the bench in the win against Atlanta as well as 5 assists.
They weren’t as successful against Boston, struggling offensively.
Offensive Performances
The Magic came out hot against the Celtics, even going into halftime winning 49-48. Forward Paolo Banchero ended the first half with 19 points and 5 rebounds.
Celtics guard Jayson Tatum had a rough shooting night from three-point range, going 1-8 from beyond the arch. Late in the fourth quarter, Tatum went down with a potential injury after a flagrant foul was called on Orlando guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Boston guard Derrick White stepped up, hitting seven 3-pointers and ending the game with 30 points.

Banchero ended the game with 36 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Forward Franz Wagner also contributed 23 points and 5 assists of his own. Despite Banchero and Wagner’s efforts, there wasn’t much contribution from the starters or off the bench.
Along with White’s 30 points, Tatum ended the game with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Jaylen Brown contributed 16 of his own points as well, giving the Celtics a comfortable 103-86 win over Orlando.

Game 2 of the series is set for Wednesday at 7 pm. Boston has made history with the most NBA championships with 18. They’re looking to continue to make history as they search for their 19th. They must first finish the job with Orlando and their young stars who are hungry to prove that they have what it takes.
