Chinyelu To Enter NBA Draft, Maintains NCAA Eligibility

Sophomore center Rueben Chinyelu announced Thursday he will declare for the NBA Draft while maintaining eligibility to return to Florida.

Chinyelu entered the draft without signing with an agent. This means he can test the waters and return to collegiate play if not drafted. The national champion has until June 15 to withdraw from the draft and return to college. The actual draft will be on June 25 and 26 in Brooklyn.

He is the second Gator sophomore to declare for the draft this week, the first being forward Alex Condon. Furthermore, Chinyelu was tied for the second-most rebounds (262) and offensive boards (93), behind Condon.

Gator Accomplishments

Transferring from Washington State, Chinyelu played one season as a Gator. He was a tremendous asset to the team, starting all 40 games and averaging six points per game.

Against LSU, Chinyelu scored 19 points, his highest at Florida. He had another Florida career high against the Gator’s first contest against Tennessee, with 15 rebounds.
