The Santa Fe College Saints softball team won both games of a doubleheader against the St. Petersburg College Titans on Tuesday. The Saints (29-19, 19-14 Mid-Florida Conference) run-ruled the Titans (14-36, 2-28 Mid-Florida Conference) in both games, winning 10-2 and 12-2.
The Saints have won five out of their last six games and the sweep extended the Titans’ losing streak to 11 games. The Titans have not won a game since March 29.
Game One
The Titans offense got off to a quick start. They put up two runs in the first inning off Saints starter Ryleigh Bauer. However, Santa Fe was quick to respond. Center fielder Karris Rhine cut the Titans’ lead in half with a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the first.

After getting the first two outs in the top of the second, Bauer walked the next three batters to load the bases. However, she was able to get a swinging strikeout to escape the jam. This seemed to spark the Saints, as they would put up six runs in the bottom of the inning. The Saints scored two of those runs off bunts.
“We wanted to give them something and keep them off-balance, and it ended up working and they bought into it,” Coach Savannah Webster said on the decision to bunt in these crucial situations.
Once her offense gave her the lead, Bauer cruised through the rest of the game by only allowing one more baserunner in three more innings of work. The Saints tacked on three more runs, all of which came off Madison Conway‘s two home runs. Her second home run in the bottom of the fifth gave Santa Fe a big enough lead for the run rule to kick in.

Game Two
Game 2 also started with some offensive fireworks, but this time it was all Saints. After starter Ryleigh Bennett set the Titans down 1-2-3 in the top of the first, Santa Fe responded by putting up nine runs in the bottom of the first. The Saints’ rally was headlined by McKenzie Jewell‘s two-run homer and Madison Conway’s two RBI hits.

Bennett shut down the Titans offense once given the lead by allowing no runs, no hits and just two walks through the following two innings. However, the Titans tacked on two runs off of reliever Belle Mancillas to put an early run-rule victory at risk.
The Saints responded immediately by adding three more runs, with Conway hitting her third home run of the day and Mancillas getting the two runs she gave up back with a two-RBI double.
“My mindset was different today and I think that’s what really made me successful at the plate,” Conway said following her day consisting of three homers and eight RBIs.

Webster put in Alexis Daphney to close out the five-inning victory. She did just that, only allowing a single baserunner on a hit by pitch.
