Gators Women’s Tennis Faces Alabama in SEC Tournament

As the No. 12 seed in the SEC tournament, the Florida Gators women’s tennis team (8-13, 4-11 SEC) will face No. 13 seed Alabama (13-13, 4-11 SEC) in a round one matchup at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Recently

Despite picking up three straight 4-0 wins over Alcorn State and a 5-2 victory over Arkansas, Alabama is entering the SEC tournament coming off of a 4-2 loss to No. 4 Oklahoma.

However, Florida has faced ample struggles of its own, falling in seven of its last nine matches this season. Entering the SEC tournament on a five-game losing streak, Florida is looking to turn its luck around in Auburn, Alabama.

Rankings

Alabama and Florida rank No. 34 and No. 47, respectively, in the ITA’s rankings with each having players ranked in singles and doubles.

For Florida, junior Rachel Gailis and senior Alicia Dudeney Gailis-Dudeney are the No. 11 pairing in the nation, with Dudeney also ranking No. 22 when paired with fellow senior Bente Spee. In singles, Gailis ranks No. 30 with Dudeny rounding out the Gators at No. 53.

Alabama junior Maria Andrienko-graduate Maria Martinez Vaquero rank No. 81 in doubles while senior Petra Sedlackova ranks No. 38 in singles play.
