Gators Baseball Seeking Season Sweep Of Stetson

The Florida Gators baseball team returns to Condron Ballpark on Tuesday night to take on Stetson in a midweek rematch.

After sweeping Missouri over the weekend to notch their first SEC series win of the season, the Gators (24-14, 4-11 SEC) are looking to ride that momentum into a two-game season sweep of the Hatters (24-13). Florida won the previous meeting 6-1 in DeLand on Feb. 25.

Flashback to DeLand: Gators Survive Controversy

In their first meeting this season, Florida overcame a heated seventh inning and powered past Stetson thanks to timely hitting and a stellar bullpen performance. Freshman right-hander Aidan King shined in relief, tossing three no-hit innings with four strikeouts to earn his first win of the season. Blake Cyr and Colby Shelton each delivered multi-hit performances, with Cyr going deep and adding a double.

Cade Kurland — who is now sidelined for the rest of the year—also left his mark on that game with a three-run homer that helped swing the momentum.

Weekend Rewind: Florida Sweeps Missouri

The Gators are coming off their best weekend of SEC play, sweeping Missouri in Gainesville. The dominant pitching and clutch offense defined the three-game set, including a Saturday doubleheader.

In Game 1 the Gators used four pitchers, including starter Liam Peterson, to secure an 11-2 win. Peterson struck out seven in five innings despite allowing two earned runs. The bullpen was flawless, tossing four shutout innings. The second and third games of the series were both seven-inning games due to inclement weather on Friday and a late start for the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday.

In game two, Aidan King was once again impressive. Starting and throwing 5.2 scoreless innings while striking out seven in a 5-0 win. In game three, Brendan Lawson provided late-game heroics with a walk-off single to cap a 3-2 win. The Gators only managed four hits, but Lawson had half of them — including the one that mattered most.

King firing 5 2/3 shutout innings earned him his fourth victory of the season and, on Monday, his second SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

At the plate, Bobby Boser was a force throughout the weekend, going 5-for-9 with three runs, two RBIs, and three walks. Colby Shelton continued his consistent play, going 4-for-9 with three RBIs and four walks of his own.

What’s at Stake

Tuesday’s game presents a chance for Florida to extend its four-game winning streak and sweep the two-game season series with Stetson. More importantly, it’s another opportunity to build rhythm heading into an away series against Mississippi State (22-14).

First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Condron Family Ballpark on SECN+ and ESPN 98.1-FM/AM-850 WRUF. UF is set to start right-hander Jackson Barberi (1-1, 4.84 ERA), while Stetson lists righty Zane Coppersmith (4-2, 7.27) as its starter.
