With questions surrounding Florida starting quarterback Dj Lagway‘s shoulder, back-up quarterback is valuable position to have on this year’s Gators Football team.
Louisville transfer Harrison Bailey received first-team reps in Saturday’s Orange and Blue spring scrimmage as the starting quarterback for team Orange. Bailey is competing for the QB2 spot with Aidan Warner, the starter for team Blue.
Bailey made a name for himself despite his team losing 38-32. He surpassed Chris Leak’s record of 335 passing yards in 2014 with 363 passing yards. In addition to the record, he threw three touchdowns and went 29-of-43 passing.
Bailey looked sharp throwing the pig skin no doubt, but he had a lot of help with freshman phenom receiver Dallas Wilson suited up in Orange. Wilson broke an Orange and Blue record of his own with 10 receptions, along with a record-tying with 195 receiving yards.
No.6 for six.
Dallas Wilson now has seven receptions for 133 yards and a touchdown.

“I was stoked to have Dallas when they announced the teams, and I told him as soon as they put it up on the screen that he was going to have 10-plus catches, 200-plus (yards),” Bailey said. “I was gonna find a way to get him the ball. That’s one of the jobs of a quarterback, getting the playmakers the ball and let them make plays.”
Lagway’s Uncertainty
Florida coach Billy Napier said Lagway will be able to throw in the coming weeks and participate in the rest of offseason training. Despite the rumors that Lagway will be healthy for Florida’s opener against LIU, Bailey’s experience as a graduate transfer could be valuable. The graduate transfer spent three years at three different schools (Tennessee, UNLV, and Louisville). His experience can serve as a benefit to Lagway.
“We [Lagway and Warner] chop it up all the time, just about life in general. Just a very down-to-earth guy, somebody that I’m glad I’m in the room with,” Bailey said. “We just bounce ideas off each other and any way that I can help him in his career and likewise with me, any way he can help me, we learn from each other.”

As the offseason winds down and summer workouts ramp up, all eyes turn toward the start of fall camp in August and the countdown to Florida’s 2025 season opener on Aug. 31. With DJ Lagway expected to be in the thick of the Heisman conversation and the Gators likely to open in the AP Top 25, year four under Billy Napier is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated seasons in recent program history.
