The Gators also unveiled their new 2025 national championship banner. It is the third added to the rafters at the Stephen O’Connell Center after the championships n 2006 and 2007. Fans erupted in cheer as each player and coach was announced, and as they brought out the trophy.
On top of all the T-shirt throwing and cheering, the Mayor of Gainesville awarded coach Todd Golden and the Gators the key to the city.
“We’re incredibly grateful for your support,” Golden said during his speech. “Most importantly we’re incredibly grateful to bring a national championship back here to Gainesville, Florida, where it belongs.”
Florida guard Walter Clayton Jr, who’s defensive play prevented Houston from getting off a last-second shot, also gave a speech.
“I know what it means to wear this orange and blue,” said Clayton Jr. “I’m glad we got it done, man. Gator boys stay hot.”
