Florida Men’s Tennis Caps Regular Season With Loss to Gamecocks

The Florida Gators men’s tennis team was handed a 4-1 loss to No. 15 South Carolina in its last regular season game on Saturday at the Carolina Tennis Center.

Doubles Play

On court three, Kevin Edengren and Ben Weintraub fell to Sean Daryabeigi and Maz Stenzer, 6-1.

However, Florida was able to secure the doubles point with dominating wins on courts one and two. On court one, No. 23 Tanapatt Nirundorn and Henry Jefferson secured the first doubles win 6-2 over South Carolina duo Lucas Da Silva and Connor Thomson.

Adhithya Ganesan and Jeremy Jin earned the second win and doubles point with another 6-2 win over Atakan Karahan and Jelani Sarr.

Singles Action

Florida quickly lost the doubles momentum when No. 122 JanMagnus Johnson fell to No. 108 Daryabeigi. Johnson lost the first set 6-1 followed by a 6-4 loss in the second set. The Gators second loss in singles play was on court two. No. 73 Jin fell to unranked Da Silva, 6-4, 6-3.

The Gators dropped the third singles match on court four when Jefferson was defeated by Karahan. Jefferson lost in a tiebreak in the first set 7-6 (7-2). He was not able to gain back control of the match losing the second set 6-4.

Lastly, on court one, No. 43 Ganesan was taken down by No. 27 Thomson. Ganesan lost the first set 6-4. He just fell short in the second set losing the tiebreak 8-6, resulting in a Gator loss 4-1 to the Gamecocks.

Courts five and six went unfinished. Edengren won the first set 6-1 but lost the second set 2-6. He was down 3-4 in the third when the the Gamecocks secured the win. Rafael Segado lost the first set 2-6, recovered and won the second set 6-4 and was down 0-2 when the match was called.

Postseason

UF will be back in Columbia, South Carolina, for the SEC tournament starting on Wednesday.
