Gators Lacrosse Faces Colorado in Big 12 Matchup

The No. 4 Florida Gators lacrosse team will face another Big 12 opponent, the University of Colorado, in Boulder on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Gators enter the weekend 11-2 overall and 2-0 in conference games. The Buffalos are 6-5 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 contests.

Gators Season

Florida is on an eight-game win streak after defeating Jacksonville Wednesday 17-7. Gianna Monaco scored five goals and had two assists, Clark Hamilton followed behind with four goals and one assist, and Jordan Basso scored three goals and tallied two assists. This marked Monaco’s 100th career point and Basso’s 400th collegiate point.

Florida has won against two Big 12 teams, UC Davis, 16-10, on March 28, and San Diego State, 21-9, on Saturday. The Gators have defeated five top-25 teams and lost to two earlier in the season against No. 3 North Carolina, 14-9 and No. 18 James Madison 17-16.

Buffalos Season

This will be Colorado’s first conference home match. The team is coming into this match after back-to-back wins over Big 12 opponents. They defeated San Diego State, 16-12, on March 29, followed by a 14-13 win against Arizona State on Sunday.

Colorado has only played against one other top-five team so far this season, No. 5 Michigan, resulting in a 12-7 loss. Colorado has lost to four top-25 ranked teams including: Stanford, USC, Northwestern, and Michigan. They defeated two ranked teams: No. 18 Stony Brook and No. 25 Army.

History

The two teams have only faced off four times in program history. The last time the Gators and Buffalo’s played each other was on Feb. 8, 2020 in the swamp. The Gators won in a close game, 11-10.
