No. 8 Gators Softball Defeats Stetson 13-5

The No. 8 Florida Gators softball team run-ruled the Stetson Hatters for the second time this season, this time in 13-5 fashion (five innings).

The long balls were flying Wednesday night as both teams combined for six home runs. The home run party began in the second inning when both Kenleigh Cahalan and Ava Brown homered to give the Gators a 3-0 lead. In the third inning, Jocelyn Erickson hit a two-run home run to make it 5-1.

With the Hatters down by four runs, they refused to let the game get away from them. Stetson scored four unanswered runs to tie the game, courtesy of home runs from both Amber Chumley and Dylan Anthony.

This is the only damage Stetson would cause, though. From here, the Gators took full control of the game and went on to score eight straight runs to complete the run-rule.

Florida’s Kara Hammock did not have her best performance in the circle, but the offense made up for it. Hammock pitched 2.2 innings, allowing six hits and five runs. Olivia Miller replaced Hammock out of the bullpen, pitching an efficient 2.1 innings to close out the game while allowing only one hit and no runs. It was a strong bounce-back game from Miller, who gave up three runs in her last outing against Arkansas.

Stetson utilized four pitchers, allowing 13 runs on nine hits.

Kendra Falby failed to record a hit which ended her team-best nine-game hitting streak. She has now only failed to garner a hit in four of Florida’s 43 games. Falby did extend her on-base streak to 45 games, though.

Both Korbe Otis and Mia Williams had multi-hit nights.

The Gators will travel to Oxford, Mississippi, to face SEC foe Ole Miss for a three-game series. The first game is Friday at 7 p.m.
