Florida guard Liv McGill will return for her sophomore season after coming off an impressive freshman year, she announced Wednesday on social media.

This comes after Ra Shaya Kyle, a senior center, is now heading to Miami and Kylee Kitts, Gators freshman guard and forward, will be parting ways.

Standout Freshman Campaign

McGill, a McDonald’s All-American from Minneapolis, Minn., made an immediate impact in her first year. She averaged 16.5 points, 5.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game. She earned a spot on the 2025 SEC All-Freshman Team and became the highest-ranked recruit in program history.

McGill made her first start as a Gator against Florida Atlantic on Nov. 4. She tallied 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists.

History Making

Her freshman campaign was nothing short of historic. McGill led Florida in scoring 16 times and had 12 20+ point performances, including a high of 29 points against Alabama in the SEC Tournament. She also recorded the program’s first triple-double since Delicia Washington in 2017, logging 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a win against Missouri on Jan. 12.

In addition to leading the team in scoring and assists, McGill showcased her all-around game with standout performances on both ends of the floor — including a career-high seven steals against Alabama State in December.

Why She Chose Florida

“I chose Florida because they’re my first offer in seventh grade,” McGill said in an interview with Water Wave TV. “They saw my potential early, they didn’t just offer me because everyone else offered me.”

Florida finished with an overall record of 19-18. With McGill returning and a promising core around her, the Gators will look to take a major step in the 2025–26 season.
