Gainesville-Area Schools Gear Up For Baseball District Tournaments

The Gainesville area high school baseball regular season comes to a close this week and the teams look to advance to the state playoffs after positive results at next week’s district tournaments that begin Monday at various locations.

Buchholz

The Buchholz Bobcats (23-1) have earned the No. 1 seed in the 6A-District 2 tournament. They have a bye in the first round and will face the winner of Ocala Forest (13-11) vs. Oakleaf (10-14) in the semifinals. Buchholz will hit the mound at 7 p.m. Tuesday. But first, Buchholz hosts a city rivalry game against Gainesville High (7-10) at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Gainesville

Gainesville (7-10) will play Mantanzas (1-22) in the 5A-District 5 tournament on Monday at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals and face No. 1-seeded Seabreeze (14-10) the following day.

Santa Fe vs Eastside

The No. 1 seed Santa Fe Raiders (10-13) will take on the No. 4 Eastside Rams (0-20) in the 3A-District 5 semifinals on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The winner will advance to the championship game Thursday at 6 p.m.

Newberry

Newberry (10-7)  has earned the No. 2 seed in the 2A-District 4 tournament. The Panthers have a first-round bye and will play the winner of Ocala Trinity Catholic (7-16) vs. Crescent City (5-15) in the semifinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

P.K. Yonge

P.K. Yonge (10-11) will play the first round at 6 p.m. Monday at Interlachen (11-8) in the 2A-District 4 quarterfinals. The winner will advance to play No. 1 seeded Keystone Heights (17-6) in the semifinals, the following day. But first, the Blue Wave will host Newberry (10-7) at 7 p.m. Thursday and close the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday (Senior Night) against visiting Oak Hall (6-8).

Saint Francis Catholic

Saint Francis Catholic (15-6) has earned the No. 1 seed in the 1A-District 5 tournament. SFCA will face No. 4 Peniel Baptist Academy (7-11) in the semifinals on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Oak Hall

The Oak Hall Eagles (6-8) will face the Countryside Christian Minutemen (13-4) in the 1A-District 5 semifinals on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Williston

The Williston Red Devils (12-10) will play Wildwood (1-14) in the Rural District 7 quarterfinals Monday at 7 p.m.

Hawthorne

No. 6 seed Hawthorne (10-9) is set to face No. 3 seed Branford (18-6) in the Rural District 6 quarterfinals on Monday at 7 p.m.
