P.K. Yonge Softball Defeated At Home By Belleview

The visiting Belleview Rattlers defeated the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave 8-2 in high school softball Friday.

Although P.K. Yonge (7-10) tallied the first run of the game, Belleview (7-8) pulled away by scoring the eight runs in the last three innings.

Three Up, Three Down

The Blue Wave had a promising defensive start in the first three innings, shutting down the Rattlers’ first three batters each round.

Second baseman Jessica Bain made several key plays in the first half of the game, catching three fly balls and throwing out Belleview runner Mackenzie Quartararo at first.

Belleview pitchers Ally Axe and  Ya’mari Reynolds held off P.K. Yonge’s offense throughout the game, throwing a total of 11 strikeouts combined.

Belleview’s defense had their backs in the infield as well, keeping the score at 0-0 throughout the first inning. However, Axe let up three walks in the first and third innings and allowed P.K. Yonge’s Brianna Garrison to make the first score of the game in the bottom of the second off a wild pitch.

Belleview took the lead in the fifth inning after five back-to-back singles. Elizabeth Hilton tied the score on a single to shortstop.

Directly after, Albanis Mogollan crossed the plate for the lead after a solid hit from Ya’Mari Reynolds.

The hitting streak continued with a line-drive base hit executed by Natayvia Salmon, and suddenly the Rattler’s score was brought to 3-1.

Strong Finish

Belleview continued to extend the lead in the final two innings of the game.

In the sixth inning, Harper Foote brought the Rattlers’ score to 4-1 after a single RBI by Axe.

Axe eventually stole home for the 5-1 lead.

P.K. Yonge scored one run in the bottom of the sixth, but was unable to close the gap.

The Rattlers kept up the momentum in their final inning of the game. Singles from Foote, Mackenzie Quarararo and Callie Pfriender paved the way for three runs to increase their score to 8-2.
