Heartbeat Of Gator Nation Cheers On Florida Men’s Basketball

Gator Nation is buzzing in anticipation of tonight’s NCAA championship game. Fans camped outside of local businesses over 24 hours before tip-off.

The Florida men’s basketball team has had a wildly successful 2024-2025 season. The team will face off against the Houston Cougars at 8:50 p.m. (CBS, ESPN 98.1-FM/AM-850 WRUF, 103.7-FM) Monday in San Antonio, and the excitement of Gator fans can be felt from miles away as they wait in anticipation of the final dance in Gainesville and the UF campus.

The skill of players and coaches alike has given Florida a dominating 35-4 record entering the title game. However, the dedication and love shared from the Gator fanbase has been the extra push to help this team succeed.

The Great Gator Campout

Since 2 p.m. on Sunday, UF students have been lining up outside their favorite watch party locations to secure a seat and a chance to watch their favorite team compete for the national title. With such an important game on the line that the Gators haven’t faced since their back-to-back championship wins in ’06 and ’07, the fans are coming together to share the experience.

“Everyone’s here with each other and we’re all Gator fans and we all have that in common, so it brings us all together.” UF senior master’s student Sam Fink said.

From freshman to seniors, every member of Gator Nation is reeling with excitement as they show their unwavering support.

The Swamp

One of the fan favorite watch locations at UF is The Swamp Restaurant just outside campus. It’s a game-day hot spot for Gator fans equipped with several indoor and outdoor flat screen TV’s so that you’ll never have to miss a second of the game. As one of the most popular spots, it has seemingly become a second home for quite a few Gators. A sea of tents now covers the sidewalk outside The Swamp. The sense of camaraderie is unmistakable as fans bond with one another over games and laughs.

“We got three sectionals out here, we got three tents, we got a big flat screen, playing some 2k, we’re hanging out.” UF junior Construction Management student Jorge Serna said.

Some arrived over prepared, while others only brought a pickleball racket, but one thing is clear; nothing will stop the passionate Gator community from coming together to cheer on their team. With the national championship on the line — the energy, loyalty and love from Gator fans will be felt in every corner of the country.
