The Florida Gators lacrosse team faces Big 12 opponents San Diego State at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
The Gators are 9-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Florida is coming into this match after a win against UC Davis 16-10 in California on March 28. This was Florida’s first Big 12 matchup.
The Aztecs are 5-7 overall and 0-1 in Big 12 games. San Diego State is entering this match after a loss to Stetson 13-15 on Wednesday.
Florida and San Diego State have faced off twice in program history. The Gators are undefeated against the Aztecs. The last time the teams played, UF won 23-5 in California on March 8, 2024.
Coach O’Leary’s Thoughts
Gators coach Amanda O’Leary thinks this match is going to be challenging.
“They have an entire offensive unit that can score goals quickly and efficiently,” O’Leary said.
Moving into the second Big 12 match, Florida has been working to improve its offense and defense.
“We have lots of film and scout sessions,” O’Leary said. “We need to lock in defensively and be able to stop those one vs. ones.”
Florida scored 16 goals out of 39 shots against UC Davis.
“It’s been a point of emphasis making sure that when we do have those opportunities [to score], we’re putting it in the back of the net,” she said.
O’Leary said associate head coach Regy Thorpe has been working with the draw unit.
“We have our work cut out for us, but, I would say whoever controls the draw is going to have a lot of success,” O’Leary said.
