The Union County Fightin’ Tigers dominated the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave for a 12-0 win Tuesday, their fourth consecutive on the road.
The game began with a pitchers’ duel as both softball teams looked ready to compete for the win. P.K. Yonge senior Makenzie Radford quickly retired all three batters with three routine flyouts. Union County senior Shyla Crowe dominated in the circle by striking out all three batters to set the tone for her performance.

Patient At-Bats
The Tigers (11-5) adjusted quickly and come out bats blazing ready to take control of the game. With three monster hits and three walks, they were able to capitalize on every opportunity to score four runs. Junior Leanne Dicks had a double to left field to drive in two runs. The Tigers also made sure to take advantage of Radford’s wild pitch to add to their lead. The top of the second forced P.K. Yonge to fight from behind the whole game.
Great performances from the Tigers included Dicks who scored three runs and freshmen Courtney Manning who went two-for-three with a double.
Defensive Domination
The Blue Wave (6-9) fell to the mercy of an impeccable Union County defense. Over five innings Crowe struck out six batters, allowing only one walk, two hits and no wild pitches. The Tiger’s defense made sure to have her back, with 19 total catches, four assists and no errors. They also executed a flawless double-play, showcasing their defensive strength.
In contrast, Blue Wave pitching struggled, with Radford tallying only one strikeout, five walks, nine errors and they did get 11 hits. The Blue Wave fielding was also shaky, with three errors and no assists.
