Lightning Top Islanders for Fourth Straight Win

The Tampa Bay Lightning claimed an away win over the New York Islanders 4-1 Tuesday night. The teams had back-to-back games against each other on Saturday and Tuesday, with Tampa Bay claiming a 5-3 victory over New York on Saturday. This is the Lightning’s fourth straight win and the Islanders’ fourth straight loss.

How it Happened

Oliver Bjorkstrand, Jake Guentzel, Victor Hedman and Nick Paul were the scorers of the game for the Lightning.

Bjorkstrand scored the first goal of the contest at 8:46 in the first period. The Islanders responded just two minutes later with a goal to tie the game. Bjorkstrand’s goal was his twentieth of the season, making him the seventh player on the Lightning with 20 goals this season.

Guentzel and Hedman scored minutes apart in the second period to give Tampa Bay the lead. Finally, Paul scored into an empty net in the third period, marking the final point of the game for the Lightning.

Additionally, Nikita Kucherov earned two points, extending his point streak to 19 points in nine games. He is currently the leading point scorer in the NHL with 111. It has been an exciting week for Kucherov, as he was named NHL First Star of the Week on Monday.

Looking Ahead

Tuesday’s win moved Tampa Bay within one point of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are sitting in first place in the Atlantic Division. The Florida Panthers are currently one point behind Tampa Bay and are vying for second place.

There are eight games left in the regular season for Tampa Bay, and they are looking to qualify for the playoffs for the eighth season in a row. If the Lightning make it to the postseason, this will extend the franchise record for the longest consecutive playoff streak.

Coming up, the Tampa Bay Lightning will travel on Thursday to play the Ottawa Senators. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
