Matchups At Women’s Basketball’s Final Four

As the women’s basketball postseason comes to a close, four teams have the opportunity to extend their seasons for one final game: the NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship. To get there, South Carolina, Texas, UCLA and UConn each look to come out on top in their respective Final Four matchups on Friday in Tampa Bay.

South Carolina v. Texas

The South Carolina versus Texas game features a top-seed matchup. Both in the SEC, these teams have faced each other multiple times this season. They split wins during the regular season and shared the SEC regular-season title. However, South Carolina (34-3) came out on top of Texas (35-3) in the SEC tournament title game, defeating the Longhorns 64-45.

The Gamecocks are the NCAA tournament reigning champions and have appeared in the Final Four seven times since the 2015 season. On the other hand, this is the first time the Longhorns have made it to the Final Four since 2003.

However, the game should not be an easy matchup for South Carolina. Texas is led by SEC Player of the Year Madison Booker, who averages 16.4 points per game.

The matchup will be played in Amalie Arena with tip-off set for 7 p.m. ESPN will broadcast the game, and streaming is available on ESPN+.

UConn v. UCLA

No. 1 UCLA will face the only second seed remaining in the tournament, UConn. Unlike South Carolina and Texas, this will be the first time the two teams play each other since last season.

Although seeded higher, UCLA (34-2) enters the matchup as the underdog. This is the first time in program history that the Bruins women’s basketball team will make a Final Four appearance.

The Huskies (35-3) have the complete opposite history with the Final Four, having the most appearances in women’s basketball history. Uconn, 11-time national champions, will have a lot of eyes on them. The Huskies have Paige Bueckers, the projected No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft. She has yet to win a national championship, so fans are eager to claim a 12th title before her college career ends.

Tip-off is set for 9:30 p.m. following the South Carolina versus Texas game. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN and available for streaming on ESPN+.

National Championship

The winner of each game will face off in a final matchup for the national title. The NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship will be played on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Amalie Arena. The game will be available on ABC, with streaming on ESPN+.
