Florida Gators Men’s Tennis Dominates LSU

The LSU Tigers (10-13, 0-10 SEC) welcomed the Florida Gators (12-7, 7-3) with hopes of earning their first SEC win. However, the Gators proved too strong, securing the victory.

Doubles

Florida’s Jeremy Jin and Adhithya Ganesan took court two, dispatching LSU Pablo Martinez Gomez and Danil Panarin. The Gators duo quickly raced to a 3-1 lead and never looked back, securing the win and earning doubles advantage for the Gators.

Kevin Edengren and Ben Weintraub took down Tigers Brock Anderson and Alessio Vasquez in a battle coming back from a 3-1 deficit to win 5 out of 6 games.

No. 18 Henry Jefferson and Tanapatt Nirundorn versus Sasa Markovic and Andrej Loncarevic; LSU was trailing 5-3 as Florida took a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.

Singles

Edengren succeeded with ease taking a straight-set victory over LSU’s Rudy Ceccon on court five. After Edengren routed him 6-1 in the first set, Ceccon put up a better fight in set two but fell 6-3 as the Gators took the lead at 2-0.

LSU responded accordingly as No. 113 Jefferson came close to Loncarevic in straight sets on court four. The match quickly turned into a tussle, as LSU pulled out a 6-3 win, cutting Florida’s lead to 2-1.

Despite controlling the first set, Nirundorn fell to Kohlmann De Freitas on court six in three sets. After losing set one 6-1, the LSU freshman flipped the script, winning the second set 6-2. Nirundorn fell 6-1 in the final set, allowing LSU to tie the match 2-2.

No. 124 Ganesan put the Gators back in the lead during a three-set win over Vasquez on court one. He came barreling back to win sets two and three. This gave Florida the lead once again.

Jin won the third set 6-1 confirming the match for Florida.

UF senior JanMagnus Johnson added UF’s fifth point with a three-set win over Markovic on court three. Johnson dominated towards the end of the set, 6-0, to secure the Gators a 5-2 win.
