Gators Women’s Golf Wins Fifth Tournament Of Spring

The Florida women’s golf team won its fifth tournament of the spring in its regular-season finale at the Chattanooga Invitational on Saturday. The Gators outplayed two top-15 teams in a statement victory prior to the SEC Championship.

After ending round one T4 and six strokes back of the lead, a 15-stroke swing on day two’s 36 holes catapulted Florida to the front of the pack. The Gators finished +16, nine strokes ahead of second place No. 13 Virginia (+25). No. 10 North Carolina finished third at +26.

UF shot 12-over-par in round one. Despite the rough start, struggles for teams across the board sat Florida T4. Seven combined birdies from redshirt freshman Addison Klonowski and redshirt sophomore Karoline Tuttle in round two helped Florida shoot a +4. It was the best scored round of the invitational. It put the Gators in position for a final-round push, just four strokes back of the lead. Florida then shot its only even or better round in the last 18 to spring it atop the leaderboard.

Individual Performances

Four Gators finished in the top-10. Sophomore Inès Archer was Florida’s top performer. Ending T7 after being one of just 11 golfers in the invitational to shoot under par in round three, her -2 round helped the Gators shoot even on the final 18. It’s her fourth top-10 of the spring, a team best.

Tuttle and freshmen Jessica Guiser and Elaine Widjaja all finished T10. Tuttle has placed T10 in both of her starts back from injury this season. Widjaja earned her sixth top-25 in seven tournaments. Guiser scored her fifth collegiate round under-par in round three (-1).

Up Next

The Gators are hot going into the SEC Championship. They have won two of their last three tournaments, with the third being a runner-up performance. The last time Florida won five events was the 2016-2017 season, when it went on to win the SEC Championship and NCAA Regional title.

Florida starts its postseason at the SEC Championship on April 14 at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla. The Gators have contributors across their lineup, so the starting five is up in the air. Florida will then learn its NCAA Regional selection on April 23 live on Golf Channel.
