The P.K. Yonge Blue Wave baseball team dug too large a hole it couldn’t climb out of in a 21-11 loss Thursday to the Dixie County Bears at Bobby Hawkins Field.
Thanks to 12 walks, four hit batters and five errors, Dixie County (5-11) built leads of 10-1 after the first inning and 19-1 entering the bottom of the third. The Blue Wave managed to staved off being run-ruled until the sixth by scoring four in the third, five in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The Bears began the first inning with a bang, scoring 10 runs before the end of the inning. Through a combination of steals and various errors by the Blue Wave, the Bears seemed unstoppable.

Their defense was just as strong heading into the bottom of the first, only allowing one run and shutting down the inning with a skillful double play.

Pitching Problems
The Blue Wave experienced a pitching conflict in the beginning of the game. By the third inning, they’d already subbed in three pitchers. Tyler Belleville started, but after allowing several walks and five runs, he was subbed out for Darius Medley.

Brief Comeback
Facing an 18-run deficit heading into the bottom of the third inning, the Blue Wave began to make their mark on the scoreboard, scoring four runs.
By the bottom of the fourth, they’d grown momentum and had decreased Dixie County’s lead to nine.

However, they only scored one more run against the Bear in the bottom of the fifth.
Early End
The Bears scored three runs in the top of the sixth and once again extended their lead to 10.
The Blue Wave were unable to make up the difference by the fifth inning and due to the mercy rule, the game ended after six innings.

The Blue Wave did outhit the Bears 13-11, but the deficit was too large to overcome. Medley, who started at third base, had three hits, two RBI and scored twice to lead P.K. Yonge. Micah Gratto and Colt Kramer also had two hits each for the Blue Wave, while Charlie Tumminia, Josh Davis and Kramer hit doubles.
