Gators Shine At FSU Relays

The Florida Gators track and field team opened the outdoor season hot at the FSU Relays Thursday and Friday in Tallahassee.

The Gators secured nine event victories and 10 athletes set personal records.

Discus Domination

Five Gators finished top five in the discus throw and two won the event. Alida van Daalen opened her 2025 campaign by setting the current No. 2 mark in the NCAA with a 63.36m effort. Akari Isaac (53.02m) and Gracelyn Leiseth (52.39) followed in second and third place, with Da’Moni Kelly (49.12) in fifth to round it out.

Field Victories

Leiseth followed up her day by winning the women’s shot put with a 16.81m throw. Logan Montgomery won the event for the men’s team with a 17.21m throw.

Imani Washington also got off to a hot start with a personal best in the women’s hammer throw. Her 61.81m effort earned her second-place and the No. 6 time in UF history.

Alyssa Banales won the women’s long jump with a 6.20m leap and Kendall Brown came in fourth place at 5.83m.

On the men’s team, Leikel Cabrera Gay impressed in his NCAA debut. Gay won the men’s javelin throw with a 73.97 effort, setting a personal best, the No. 6 spot in UF history and fourth best in the NCAA this season. Aidan Broussard came in second place with a personal best 62.65m performance.

Elaina Perkins and Evelyn Vanzwieten also both set personal bests in the women’s javelin throw with a 45.73m and 44.80 throw, respectively.

Jacob Lemmon capped the Gators’ impressive field day by setting the No. 8 mark in UF history in the men’s discus throw. His 58.80 secured a victory in the event and the ninth best mark in the NCAA this season.

Track Success

Florida also led the way on the track, headlined by the men’s 4×400 that set the best time in the NCAA this year. The team of Reheem Hayles, Justin Braun, Garrett Fox and Nicholas Spikes ran a 3:04.30 to blow past the next closest opponent in FSU at 3:10.40.

Habiba Harris also made her NCAA debut by setting the second best time in the country this season in the women’s 100m hurdles. Her 13.05 performance is also No. 6 program history. Thalia Waters came in third place at 13.48.

Three Gators placed consecutively in the men’s 1500m final. Alex Pena, Alec Miller and Aiden Villasuso placed second, third and fourth, respectively. On the women’s side, Ashley Fitzgerald came in fifth place and Kate Drummond in seventh.

In the 200m finals, Jaden Wiley took home first place and Quincy Penn secured third place in the women’s event. Fox and Spikes also rounded out the top five for the men’s team.
