The No. 7 Florida Gators lacrosse team defeated UC Davis in the Big 12 opener, 16-10, Friday evening in Davis, Calif. This marks the Gators’ sixth consecutive win, bringing their overall record to 9-2 and 1-0 in conference play.

First Quarter
Clark Hamilton secured the first point, finding the back of the net with 12:53 left in the quarter. This was just the start of Florida’s momentum, following with back-to-back goals by Gianna Monaco, putting UF ahead 3-0. Basso then assisted Frannie Hahn scoring another point with 4:37 remaining.
The Aggies (3-7) responded with two goals bringing the score to 4-2. However, Hamilton secured the last point of the quarter, assisted by Basso with 19 seconds left.
Second Quarter
Florida came out strong with Hamilton scoring with 13:15 left on the clock. This marked Hamilton’s third goal of the game. UC Davis was able to find the back of Florida’s net with 10:42 on the clock.
Florida bounced right back with a goal by Kaitlyn Davies pushing UF further in the lead, 7-3 with 8:17 left.
The Aggies secured a goal with 3:57 remaining. However, Florida responded with a three-point run with goals from Hamilton at 3:13, Basso with 31 seconds left, followed by Jenny Markey. The quarter ended with Florida leading 10-4.
Third Quarter
UC Davis came out in the third quarter with the first goal. But, UF did not allow a run. Monaco scored the next goal followed by Gabbi Koury with 10:51 to go.
UC Davis was able to secure another goal, but once again UF scored another two goals in a row. The first goal was scored by Basso followed by Monaco with 6:25 remaining. The quarter ended with UF leading 14-6.
Fourth Quarter
The Aggies were able to make two goals before Hahn found the first goal of the quarter for Florida with 10:26 left. Florida still was in the lead 15-8.
UC Davis scored another back-to-back goals, narrowing the score gap to 15-10. To end the game, Davies, with 58 seconds remaining, scored the last goal leading to a 16-10 Florida victory.
Game Highlights
It was the fifth game this season in which five or more players scored at least two goals. The Gators had a season high of 39 shots. Also, Davies has scored two or more goals in seven consecutive games.
