Gators Men’s Tennis Dominates LSU

The Florida Gators men’s Tennis team defeated the LSU Tigers 5-2 in Baton Rouge, extending their win streak to four, their overall record to 12-7, and their SEC record to 6-3.

Doubles Play

Starting off strong on court two, Adhityha Ganesan and Jeremy Jin defeated LSU duos Julien Penzlin and Enzo Kohlmann, 6-1. Shortly after, on court three, Kevin Edengren and Ben Weintraub defeated LSU partners Brock Anderson and Alessio Vasquez, 6-4.

After Florida secured the doubles point, No. 18 ranked partners Tanapatt Nirundorn and Henry Jefferson’s match went unfinished on court one, 5-3.

Singles Action

Edengren secured the first singles win for UF on court five against Rudy Ceccon, 6-1, 6-3. However, LSU responded with a win on court four when LSU player Andrej Loncarevic beat No. 113 Jefferson, 6-3, 6-3.

LSU tied up the match 2-2 after Nirundorn was defeated on court six by Kohlmann. Nirundorn lost the first set 6-1, but was able to bounce back and win the second set 6-2. However, Nirundorn was not able to hold onto the momentum, losing the third set 6-1.

In three sets, No. 124 Adhithya Ganesan was able to secure the win for Florida bringing UF to the lead, 3-2. Ganesan defeated Vasquez in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, on court one.

In another three set battle on court two, No. 65 Jin came out with another victory for UF. Jin lost the first set 6-3, but was able to come back winning the second set 6-3. He carried the energy into the third set winning 6-2, giving the Gators their fourth point and a Florida victory.

Although Florida already won the match, they played out the match on court three. JanMagnus Johnson defeated LSU player Sasa Markovic, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-0.

Looking Ahead

Florida is ranked No. 29 in the ITA rankings and fourth in the SEC conference rankings. The team is on the road one more time facing the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday at 2 p.m., before returning to the Alfred A. Tennis Complex to play Georgia followed by Tennessee.
