Florida defeated Texas Tech 67-63 in the WBIT quarterfinals Thursday night at the O’Connell Center to secure a spot in the tournament’s semifinals.
The Gators (19-17) dominated inside with 32 points in the paint, led by All-SEC freshman Liv McGill, who scored 22 points. Senior Ra Shaya Kyle delivered a standout performance with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
A full 40-minute effort proved to be the difference for Florida, a team that has struggled to maintain intensity for all four quarters this season. The Gators also won the turnover battle, forcing 16 Texas Tech turnovers and converting them into 17 points — an area of emphasis for postseason success.
The third quarter served as a turning point, as Florida went on a 12-0 run to take control of the game. Texas Tech (19-18) struggled at the free-throw line, shooting just 48%, while the Gators capitalized at 74%. However, Florida’s struggles with second-chance points allowed the Raiders to stay within striking distance.
With 2:31 remaining, Texas Tech briefly regained the lead to force Florida to respond under pressure. The Gators executed in the final possessions to reclaim control and seal the victory. Jasmine Shavers and Bailey Maupin lead Texas Tech with 21 and 23 points, respectively.
