Florida wide receiver Eugene Wilson III is making a comeback after missing half of the 2024 season due to injury. After redshirting, Wilson is ready to return and continue making an impact on the field.
The Florida native started in four games last season, when he totaled 266 receiving yards and one touchdown on 19 receptions. Wilson first suffered a lower body injury against Samford in September that sidelined him for more than a month. This was the same game where he recorded a career-high 141 receiving yards and an 85-yard reception touchdown.
Returning to the field in October to assist the team in their game against Tennessee, Wilson caught a team-high five passes for 35 yards. Not long after this game, he was ruled out for the remainder of the season as he endured a serious hip injury.
Wilson said he’s excited to return to the field for spring practice. He describes his return as a blessing, “I’m back doing what I love,” Wilson said.
Rather than viewing his injury as a setback, Wilson has remained positive and acknowledges that it has enabled him to “grow in spots” he never knew he had. Wilson also says he is “juiced” to play a full season with quarterback DJ Lagway.
Coach Billy Napier is confident in Wilson’s return after many successful spring practices. Wilson is still playing in a no-contact jersey for safety and to ensure a positive season start.
“He looks like a million bucks,” Napier said.
The Gators will play the spring game (Admission is free and kickoff is set for 1 p.m.) on April 12 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, where fans await Wilson’s return to the field.
