Gainesville Baseball Continues Losing Streak, Falls At P.K. Yonge

The Gainesville High School Hurricanes were defeated by the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave, 8-1, Tuesday at Bobby Hawkins Field. The city baseball teams split the two-game series, with Gainesville taking the first one 8-0 last month at Tiny Talbot Field.

Gainesville’s losing streak is now extended to three games for a 6-6 record. Having been outscored 28-6 during this skid, the scoring woes continued against P.K. Yonge (8-6).

Sophomore BJ Johnson got the start from coach Adrian Ramos. This would be the second matchup for BJ against his brother, Blue Wave sophomore starting third baseman Darius Medley.

P.K. Yonge jumped out to a quick 2-0 advantage thanks to a two-RBI single from sophomore Tyler Belleville in the first inning.

The Blue Wave continued to tack on runs, scoring in every inning but the second.

Johnson struggled to control the game from the mound in going 2.2 innings with six hits and giving up three runs, all earned. Johnson was replaced by freshman Juan Roman, who also struggled against the Blue Wave hitting, going 0.1 innings, giving up three earned runs.

Gainesville also struggled from the plate as well. The Hurricanes’ registered seven hits, with one being extra bases and six strikeouts.
