Gators Women’s Basketball Face UNLV in Second Round of WBIT

The Florida women’s basketball team will face UNLV this evening. As the No. 2 seed in the 2025 Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament, the Lady Rebels will host the matchup against the third-seeded Gators.

This will only be the second time the two teams play each other. In December 2018, UNLV hosted the Gators, defeating them 56-53 to put the all-time series 1-0 in favor of the Lady Rebels.

First Round Action

UNLV (26-7) is coming off a dominant home-court win over Hawai’i on Thursday. The Lady Rebels had a seven-point lead going into the second half of play (27-20). However, a 12-2 scoring run to start the third quarter increased UNLV’s lead to 17 points (39-22). Despite its efforts, Hawai’i was unable to catch up. The 63-46 victory marks the team’s first postseason win since their 2003-04 season.

The Gators (17-17) also had a victorious night at home on Thursday as they defeated the UNI Panthers 83-71. Although the game was tied 38-38 to start the second half of play, Florida played an aggressive final 20 minutes to secure the win. The Gators scored 23 points in the third quarter and 22 in the fourth to advance past the first round of the tournament.

Sunday WBIT Matchup

Sophomore guard Amarachi Kimpson will be a player to look out for on the Lady Rebels’ roster. Kimpson is UNLV’s top scorer, averaging 14.2 points per game.

However, the Gators consistently have several players reaching double digits each game. Against UNI, senior guard Jeriah Warren posted 28 points, marking her career-high in scoring. She also averages 12.2 points per game.

Although the Lady Rebels have the home court advantage, Florida should not be overlooked. The Gators have proven their ability to defend the ball and compete against top contenders, such as defeating No. 20 Alabama at the SEC Tournament.

Game Time

Florida plays UNLV at the Cox Pavilion with tip-off set for 5 p.m. The game is available for streaming on ESPN+ and airs on ESPN 98.1-FM/850-AM WRUF at 4:40 p.m.
