Gators Run-Rule FAMU, Cap Off Dominant Midweek

Gators baseball closed out its midweek slate in dominant fashion, securing a 14-4 run-rule victory over Florida A&M on Wednesday night.

The win, coupled with Tuesday’s 16-4 run-rule against Jacksonville, serves as a major confidence boost for the Gators after last weekend’s struggles at Tennessee.

Early Offense and Shaky Start on the Mound

The Gators (18-5) wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard, plating three runs in the first inning. Justin Nadeau and Bobby Boser reached base to start the game. Which would set up Colby Shelton’s first RBI double of the night. A sacrifice fly from Blake Cyr and an RBI groundout from Brendan Lawson quickly put Florida up 3-0.

However, FAMU (9-11) responded in the second, tagging Florida starter Matthew Jenkins for three runs, including a two-run homer, before taking a 4-3 lead on a bases-loaded walk. That would be the last Rattler advantage, as Caden McDonald came out of the bullpen to shut the door, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings while striking out seven to earn his second win of the season.

Gators Respond and Take Control

Florida immediately answered in the bottom of the third. A sacrifice fly from Lawson tied the game at 4-4 before Brody Donay ripped a two-run double to give the Gators the lead for good. Ty Evans added an RBI groundout, and a wild pitch allowed another run to score, pushing the Gators’ lead to 8-4.

The bats stayed hot in the fourth, as Cyr delivered an RBI single to score Shelton. In the sixth, Shelton’s third double of the night plated Boser, and Cyr followed up with a two-run blast, extending Florida’s lead to 12-4.

Biemiller Shuts It Down, Cyr Walks It Off

McCall Biemiller entered in the seventh and struck out the side, keeping the momentum in Florida’s favor. The Gators quickly ended things in the bottom half. Ashton Wilson led off with a pinch-hit single before Nadeau and Boser reached to load the bases. Cyr came through once again, singling home two runs to trigger the run-rule victory.
