NEWBERRY — The Newberry boys lacrosse team evened its record Monday with an 11-8 win against Ocala Forest.
Senior attacker Reymar Basol scored seven goals to lead Newberry (4-4). He secured a hat trick in the first quarter, scored one in the second quarter and had another hat trick in the fourth.

Newberry had a quick start in the first quarter with a goal from Basol in the just the third minute and another goal straight after by senior midfielder Ryan Murphy.
However, after the second goal, the Wildcats (1-8) were able to score. Forest then got in another due to an accidental own goal by Newberry defender senior Colton Harvey that tied the match at 2-2.
Newberry was then able to come out of the first quarter on top at 4-2 after Basol goals in the 10th and 11th minute.
The second quarter was a battle of possession. Forest was able to get two more goals and Newberry scored one by Basol to edge to a 5-4 lead at the break.

Newberry began to pull away in the third quarter when it scored two goals. Panther freshman goalkeeper Brandon Powell made some standout saves and Newberry was able to keep Forest from scoring in the period, which ended with NHS up 7-4.
Forest made an attempt at coming back by scoring four goals in the fourth period.
Newberry, however, kept its composure and was able to put the nail in the coffin by scoring four goals as well. Basol scored with 23 seconds left to settle the final score.

“Games are kind of our do or die now, we’re trying to set ourselves up for success going into the playoffs, so I told the boys, every loss you have from here on out sets you up for failure,” Newberry coach Cooper Jackson said. “So, it’s win or go home right now.”
Newberry improved to 5-4 on Tuesday when it defeated visiting Eastside 10-6.
The Panthers continue the three-match homestand when they entertain Santa Fe (2-2) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on Senior Night.
