Gators Track and Field Eyes NCAA Indoor Championships

Florida men’s and women’s track and field are looking to bounce back at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday. The two-day meet in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is the title event for the indoor season.

The Gators had a disappointing outing at the SEC Indoor Championships in February, where the men’s team finished last and the women’s team came in 11th. Despite the lackluster performance as a whole, there were still some bright spots for the Gators. 

SEC Honors

Tia Wilson, Hilda Olemomoi, Jessica Edwards and Gabrielle Matthews made the All-SEC Teams. 

Wilson, the SEC indoor mile champion, was named to the first team. Olemomoi made the second team, and Edwards and Matthews earned third-team honors.  

Olemomoi won silver in the women’s 3000-meters. Edwards and Matthews were part of the distance medley relay team that won bronze. 

NCAA Indoor History

Florida has won seven NCAA indoor championships. The men’s team has won five and the women’s team has won two, with the most recent title coming in 2022. 

The men’s team won three straight indoor titles from 2010 to 2012 under coach Mike Holloway, who’s led the team since 2003. In 2024, the men’s team came in third and the women’s team secured second-place, only trailing Arkansas. Parker Valby won gold in the women’s 3000-meters and 5000-meters, setting program records in both events.

Returning sprinters Raheem Hayles and Jenoah McKiver were a part of the team that won silver in the men’s 4×400 relay last year. The group earned the No. 4 spot in program history.
