Florida spring football camp is underway, with the team returning to the field last Thursday. Coming off of an 8-5 season, Billy Napier’s squad looks to rally behind young talent like rising sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway and five-star recruit Dallas Wilson.
Offensive coordinator Russ Callaway spoke highly of the high-powered offense in his Friday news conference.
“Overall, as a unit, this is the first time that all of the starters are not just the best players, but they’re the ones up here all day putting in the extra work and time,” Callaway said.
Rising Stars
The 2025 Florida recruiting class was one for the ages. National Signing Day brought in 26 commits and five transfers, totaling a class score of 91.88.
With the departure of wide receivers Elijah Badger and Chimere Dike, Napier brought in four new wideouts: Vernell Brown, Dallas Wilson, Naeshaun Montgomery and transfer J. Michael Sturvidant. The new editions in blue and orange will be catching passes from Lagway, who showed plenty of promise last season. The #GRIND25HINE group caught the eye of Callaway both on the field and in the gym.
“They’re really good players, but they’re extremely hard workers. I have not seen a young group like this,” Callaway said. “It’s almost annoying how much they’re up here wanting to get extra work in.”
Callaway also tipped his cap to three-star recruit Cameron Kossmann. The tight end was named to the First Team All-Conference in 2024 out of Marquette High School in Missouri. Callaway liked what he saw in Kossmann and gave his props to the Florida recruiting staff.
“Every year, there is a crop of kids, Cam being one of them, who improve so much from their junior to senior year,” Callaway said. “You turn the tape on, and it’s like, this guy is as good as anybody we’ve signed in the last four years.”
Spring football is a great way for coaches to evaluate the talent on the field and for players to get extra reps at the Heavener Football Complex.
This year’s Orange & Blue spring game is on Saturday, April 12, at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
