Godwin suffered a devastating season-ending ankle dislocation during the Bucs’ Week 7 game against the Baltimore Ravens. During those seven weeks before injury, Godwin had one of the best seasons of his career with 50 receptions, 576 yards, and five touchdowns. During that time, he was leading the league in many of these categories.
This injury is not the first for Godwin, as he suffered a torn ACL and MCL toward the end of the 2021 season with the Bucs. Despite the season-ending injury, the Bucs offered him a three-year deal of $60 million.
Godwin has proved that he is more than just a great player; he is also a great teammate as he mentored rookie Jalen McMillan. Godwin helped him in many ways, from running routes to teaching him the culture of the team. This help was a proven success, as McMillan recorded eight touchdowns for the season and led the league during Weeks 14-18.
Godwin has stayed loyal to the Bucs as he re-signed with the team that drafted him in 2017, even though the New England Patriots reportedly offered him more money.
Though Godwin’s status is questionable going into the 8th season of his NFL career, Bucs coach Todd Bowles says he “hopes” for him to return to the field during Week 1. There are five months until the NFL returns, and Bucs fans are ready for Godwin to be back and healthy.
