After finishing 8-5 last season, Florida Gators football opened spring practice on Thursday afternoon, with quarterback sensation DJ Lagway limited due to a shoulder and lower body issues.

Lagway, 19, was pretty active during drills except for notable aspect, throwing passes. As the other Florida quarterbacks took snaps and made throws, he was apart from them mirroring the motions without throwing.
Florida head coach Billy Napier talked to the media on Thursday, stating his staff planned to limit Lagway during spring practice as a precaution.
“Our intentions here are to be very smart,” Napier said. “He’ll be limited in throwing activities, but he’ll participate in all practices otherwise.”
Lagway’s most notable injury was a strained left hamstring suffered against Georgia. He was helped out the game and missed the following contest at Texas in November.
With Lagway limited, Louisville graduate transfer Harrison Bailey will get the majority of the starter reps. Bailey is entering his sixth year, spending time at Tennessee and UNLV before Louisville.
Lagway Off the Field
Lagway recently appeared on Robert Griffin III’s show “Outta Pocket with RGIII“, where he talks about his expectations for this upcoming season. Being from Texas, he mentioned how he mirrored his game after watching the Heisman winner during his days at Baylor.
He talked about improving his mechanics and pocket awareness in his sophomore year. Lagway also talked about how he’s focused on learning Florida’s offense better, along with being able to recognize opposing schemes.
He also mentioned how the presence of redshirt senior Graham Mertz was a blessing for him. He thanked Mertz for being a great mentor.
In his first season as a Gator, Lagway threw for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
