First Round: Florida vs. Auburn
No. 11 seed Florida will take on No. 14 seed Auburn on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network. This will be the second meeting between the teams this season, with Auburn winning the first matchup by 23 points at Neville Arena at home in January.
While this may seem like an evenly-matched contest, Florida may have momentum after back-to-back wins over unranked SEC opponents. The Gators will rely on All-SEC Freshman Team selection guard Liv McGill and senior forward Ra Shaya Kyle, who leads the team in rebounding. Florida, which statistically leads Auburn in nearly every category, will need to limit turnovers to secure a win.
Heavyweights
No. 6 South Carolina earned the No. 1 seed over Texas after a coin-flip tiebreaker, marking the fourth consecutive year the Gamecocks have topped the conference tournament bracket. Both teams, co-SEC regular-season champions, are favorites to contend for the title.
Texas made an immediate impact in its first year in the SEC. South Carolina, the winner of two of the last three national championships, will look to bounce back from a regular season that featured rare losses.
Dark Horses
The SEC features some of the top teams in the country, but several squads could upset South Carolina and Texas. LSU, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Alabama all have the talent and depth to make a deep run in the SEC women’s basketball tournament.
