The Buchholz Bobcats girls lacrosse team secured a gritty Class 2A-District 3 win, 6-5, against the Ocala Forest High Wildcats in front of its home crowd last Wednesday. The hard-fought finish instilled toughness in the Buchholz girls until the final whistle.
Asserting early dominance
Buchholz (6-1) took control in the first quarter when junior Gabby Kutz scored the first goal. Seniors Gabri Trimboli and Jenna Davis each added to the Buchholz lead. The Wildcats (4-2) aimed to respond, but Bobcats goalie Madilyn Main looked unstoppable in net with several clutch saves.

The first half wrapped up with strong defensive efforts from the Bobcats and even more critical saves by Main. Sara Davis fired in a goal off of a free position shot just moments before the break to add to the Bobcats’ lead.
Throughout the third quarter, Buchholz’s Jenna Davis showed great hustle on both ends of the field, coming up with an interception off a Forest High pass and leading the charge down the other end. She then dodged past a swarm of Wildcat defenders to score her second goal of the game.
At this point, the 5-0 lead heading into the final 12 minutes looked promising, but nobody in the stands could expect the comeback that ensued.

Forest Storms Back Late
The Wildcats responded with a pair of goals from Chloe Cooper and another by Finley Briggs at the halfway mark of the fourth quarter to give them life. Jenna Davis broke the streak by swerving through the Forest High defense to score and earn herself a hat trick.
Continuing their frantic comeback, the Wildcats proceeded to score two more goals to cut the Bobcats’ lead to 6-5. However, when time expired, and the horn sounded, Buchholz’s bench ran out to celebrate. The win bumped them up to first place in the district standings.

Looking Ahead
Following the loss in their first game of the season, Buchholz has been on a winning streak they look to maintain. The Bobcats began their stretch of three away games Friday with a 16-8 win at Lake Minneola (2-4) followed by a 12-7 victory against the East Ridge Knights (2-5) on Monday night. They play at the undefeated Oak Hall Eagles (6-0) at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
