P.K. Yonge Completes Senior Night Sweep Vs. Keystone Heights

The P.K. Yonge Blue Wave overwhelmed the Keystone Heights Indians much of the volleyball match Thursday with organized and consistent hitting to secure the 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-19) win. 

New Match, Same Result 

After completing the sweep in its first matchup at Keystone Heights (3-16) on Sept. 11, P.K. Yonge (9-9, MaxPreps) ended its regular season on the right note by again sweeping the Indians, this time at home on Senior Night.

The Blue Wave came out strong and never looked fazed as they overwhelmed Keystone Heights with precise passing and set attacks to match a similar victory margin in each set compared to the last time the teams faced off. 

Senior Power

P.K. Yonge’s Senior Night celebration for Xyiah Moore and Autumn James set the tone for fans and players alike before the match opened up. Family and friends of both players lined up at center court to honor and congratulate them. 

 

The crowd’s energy fueled the Blue Wave early when they jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first set. Moore led the way with two blocks.

The Blue Wave maintained momentum as James took over late in the first set by recording five kills and three aces to secure the 25-12 first-set win. 

“I’m feeling really good. I’m sad the season is over, but I’m ready for the postseason, ” James said.

Set Success 

Jorryn Dye led the way in the second set for the Blue Wave with a pair of blocks and kills off of rallies for a 25-19 win. 

Keystone Heights did not lead in the match until the beginning of the third set when it scored the first point and capitalized off of P.K. Yonge miscues to jump up 10-9.

P.K. Yonge was able to regroup shortly after behind Dye’s block and tip on the way to a 15-10 lead. The Blue Wave remained composed and were able to complete the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third set. 

Up Next 

P.K. Yonge is set to play in the Class 3A District 3 tournament starting Tuesday against the winner of Crescent City and Palatka in Monday’s opening round.
