Auburn Headed to Tiger Stadium to Face LSU

The Auburn Tigers (3-2) are heading to Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to play the 22nd-ranked LSU Tigers (4-2).

Auburn is coming off of a bye week and looking for a win after back-to-back losses.

LSU is has been in back-to-back shootouts and is looking for its second straight win.

Offensive Firepower

LSU wins games by dominating on one side of the field. The Tigers are 1-1 in their last two games, where they scored 49 in each one. Their quarterback, Jayden Daniels, ranks third in passing yards in all of college football with 1,969 yards.

He is only behind Shedeur Sanders and Michael Penix. This also makes him first in the SEC. Daniels is second in passing touchdowns with 19 only behind Caleb Williams, who has 22.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly had this to say about Daniels.

To pair up with Daniels, wide receiver Malik Nabers is second in receiving yards, with 771, behind SEC rival Luther Burden who plays for Missouri. His partner in crime is Brian Thomas, who is ninth in receiving yards with 603. Thomas is tied for first in receiving touchdowns with nine, while Nabers is tied for 10th with six.

Unlike LSU, Auburn doesn’t have top offensive weapons to dominate its competition. They dominate the run game by sharing rushing attempts. Auburn is 37th in rushing which still falls short of LSU who is 28th in rushing yards. Jarquez Hunter leads the way with 202 rushing yards, but their quarterback Payton Thorne is right behind him with 198.

Brian Kelly had this to say when asked to compare Missouri’s offense to Auburn’s.

Defensive Efforts

Auburn isn’t great defensively, but they are worlds apart from LSU. Auburn corner Jaylin Simpson is tied for first for the most interceptions in college football with four.

Auburn played Georgia in its last game and was able to defend well in the passing game against everyone except for tight end Brock Bowers, who had eight receptions for 157 yards and a touchdown.

The Tigers continue to struggle defensively, as they rank 242nd in total yards allowed, 244th in passing yards allowed and 241st in points allowed. They have allowed 94 points in their last two games.

Ole Miss and Missouri were LSU’s last two opponents, and both teams moved the ball with ease, both through the air and on the ground. Each had at least one rusher and one receiver with over 100 yards, along with both quarterbacks throwing for just under 400 passing yards.

Game Plan

Auburn will need to keep up with LSU’s offense because its chance of outscoring the Tigers is limited.

As for LSU, its offense will look to continue to score with ease and all eyes will be on the defense to see if it can improve as the season goes on.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Saturday in Tiger Stadium. A

win for Auburn will keep them away from being .500, meanwhile LSU is looking to improve to 5-2.

Both teams are in the race to represent the SEC West in the SEC Championship, but another conference loss would be devastating for both.
