The Buchholz Bobcats and the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave had some close sets Tuesday, but the host Bobcats came out on top for the three-set high school volleyball win.
Quick win in the first set for the Bobcats
It was a back-and-forth first set for Buchholz and P.K. Yonge. Ava Dunn blocked P.K. Yonge’s ball by spiking it back to help the Bobcats tie the score 8-8. The Bobcats went up 19-11 with the help of a serve from Allie Canto. Buchholz then closed out the first set, 25-14.
Tight second set
Buchholz started out slow in the second set, as P.K. Yonge began to dominate. Then the teams began to go neck and neck.
P.K. Yonge missed on some opportunities by failing in a few blocking attempts that allowed the Bobcats to score. The Bobcats then rallied after the Blue Wave led 17-13 to tie the set at 17-all on a spike by Emmy Rowlands. After a battle for points, Buchholz pulled away for the 25-22 set win.
Tense third set
Both teams felt the pressure in the deciding third set. The Bobcats had the match in hand and needed to finish strong, while the Blue Wave needed a big comeback to get back in the match.
P.K. Yonge was hustling throughout the set, sliding, jumping and diving for balls. Buchholz, with a height advantage, then gained momentum by blocking P.K. Yonge attempts at the net before settling the match by taking the set 25-22.
