Week 6: here are some of the biggest storylines from another action-packed Saturday:
No. 12 Oklahoma 34
No. 3 Texas 30
The Red River Rivalry always delivers.
The Texas State Fair, the never-changing afternoon kickoff under the beaming sun, the 50-50 crowd and two mammoth football programs – it’s perfect.
After the 49-0 beatdown last year, OU bounced back in the 2023 installation of the rivalry. This Sooner team is significantly better than last year’s squad. The defense, led by Big 12 tackle leader Danny Stutsman and star defensive back Billy Bowman, proved to be a challenge for Texas’ elite offense.
The Longhorns uncharacteristically turned the ball over three times, while OU didn’t cough it up once. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel had 398 total yards, highlighted by a game-winning touchdown drive with just 1:11 left on the clock.
These teams will likely meet again in Dallas for the Big 12 title with Playoff implications on the line.
No. 25 Louisville 33
No. 10 Notre Dame 20
This season has been brutal for the Irish. The team is extraordinarily talented, and had a few plays gone their way, they could easily be undefeated and in the top five of the AP poll.
In actuality, they are already a two-loss team and all Playoff hopes are crushed.
Take nothing away from Louisville; they were awesome. Behind a rocking home crowd and marvelous performances from Jawhar Jordan (21 carries, 143 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Devin Neal (2 interceptions, 1 pass breakup, 8 tackles), the Cardinals improved to 6-0.
This was easily Louisville’s toughest game on the schedule, and there’s a real chance this team heads to the ACC Championship with a 12-0 or 11-1 record.

No. 9 USC 43
Arizona 41
Southern Cal fans cannot be feeling good after that performance.
Yes, the Trojans won. Unfortunately, what we’ve seen from Lincoln Riley’s squad is not nearly good enough to win the PAC 12, let alone a Playoff game.
Alex Grinch defenses have historically struggled, and this year seems to be no different. It gave up 506 yards and 41 points to an unranked offense led by a backup quarterback (no disrespect to Noah Fifita, he was brilliant).
Caleb Williams didn’t wow and dazzle like he usually does, but he came up clutch at the end of the game and in overtime to keep USC unbeaten.
Arizona had the chance to go for two to win in overtime but decided not to.
Eventually, the ‘Cats caved to the Trojans when the game came down to the two-point conversion back-and-forth battle.
No. 23 LSU 49
No. 21 Missouri 39
This LSU offense is very good. This LSU defense is very not.
In the battle of the Tigers, LSU simply out-offense’d Mizzou, if you will.
Here’s a quick look at the offensive firepower that was exhibited in Columbia this weekend:
- Jayden Daniels (LSU QB): 393 total yards, 4 TD
- Logan Diggs (LSU RB): 134 yards, TD
- Malik Nabers (LSU WR): 6 catches, 146 yards, TD
- Brady Cook (Mizzou QB): 411 passing yards, 2 TD, 2 interceptions
- Cody Schrader (Mizzou RB): 13 carries, 114 yards, 3 TD
- Luther Burden III (Mizzou WR): 11 catches, 149 yards
LSU picks up a much-needed win and keeps their SEC title hopes alive. The Bayou Bengals have their toughest SEC tests ahead of them, with games against Alabama and Texas A&M still on the schedule.

No. 11 Alabama 26
Texas A&M 20
This game has been a one-score battle the past three years, as another nail-biter took place in Aggieland on Saturday.
Alabama managed to scrape out a win behind a monster day from Jermaine Burton and timely stops from its defense. The Tide’s offense was finally clicking, posting 24 offensive points against a stout Aggie defense.
Alabama controls its own destiny in the SEC West, but still has to play a pesky Ole Miss team, bitter rivals Tennessee and LSU’s electrifying offense.

- Georgia proved why it holds the No. 1 spot, crushing no. 20 Kentucky by 38

- And finally… look away ‘Canes fans: No. 17 Miami lost a football game in the worst way imaginable. Nightmare fuel for Cristobal and Co.
