The Eastside Rams lost their final regular-season home match of the season Tuesday to Oak Hall.
The Eagles improved to 15-1 with the 25-12, 25-22, 25-8 volleyball win.
Team Progression
Last year, the Rams walked away from the season winning only one match. Coming into Tuesday’s competition, Eastside was 8-7.
“We’re doing way better, playing together well and growing as a team,” Rams coach Rachel Williams said.
Last Time Around
The Rams were looking forward to have the opportunity to play the Eagles again this season.
At the end of August, Oak Hall won the match in three sets (25-16, 25-14, 25-14). Williams was happy to be playing on Eastside’s home court in the rematch.
“I know Oak Hall has a very awesome program that has been around a long time. We enjoy playing them,” Williams said.
Persistent Defense
Joanna Williams and Samiyah Daniels were two key players for the Rams, recording six blocks each to fend off the Eagles’ attacks.
Kenadee Johnson played the full match without substitution. Williams applauded Johnson’s efforts this season because the sophomore last played the sport in sixth grade.
Eagles’ Dominance
Led by Ave Scorpio, Pene Moser and Cassidy McDonald, Oak Hall is rolling toward the postseason. Oak Hall coach Perry McDonald is excited to have Moser on the court for the full season after she suffered an ACL tear in January.
Scorpio’s 13 kills and McDonald’s 23 assists and 17 service points powered Oak Hall. Moser and Lizzie Cannon each recorded seven kills to contribute to the Eagles’ aggressive approach.
Next Up
The Rams (8-8) go on the road for their final three games before the district tourney, starting with a 7 p.m. match Monday at Fort White. Oak Hall hosts Williston in a home tourney Saturday.
