LSU Heads to Mississippi State for Season’s First SEC Matchup

The SEC has a few matchups this weekend. LSU will be on the road headed to Mississippi State for the first SEC matchup of the season. Other SEC matchups include South Carolina at Georgia and Tennessee at Florida.

This is exactly where LSU and Mississippi State were last year for SEC opening weekend. LSU was 1-1, and Mississippi State was undefeated in the season. LSU won last year and won four of the last five matchups. Fast forward to this season, and even though LSU won last week’s game against Grambling State in a blowout, 72-10, the loss against FSU in week 1 remains on everyone’s minds.

Mississippi State

Mississippi State has a new head coach this year, Zach Arnett, who has a new approach offensively. Will Rogers has been quarterback for Mississippi State for some time now, and having the strong running back Jo’quavious Marks allows them to dominate the rushing yard game. Marks already put up 250 rushing yards this season, while LSU running back Logan Diggs only has 115 rushing yards.

This is what Head Coach Zach Arnett had to say about this upcoming game:

LSU

LSU’s offense is strong in passing and receiving. Quarterback Jayden Daniels has 615 passing yards and wide receiver Brian Thomas has 220 receiving yards. However, this game will be more about who can be stronger defensively. LSU’s defense is looking strong, not strong enough to cover FSU, but stronger than Arizona’s. Have the pieces that needed to be implemented for the team in 14 days? Or does Mississippi State have what it takes to stand up to LSU’s offense?

This will be LSU’s first of five SEC matchups back-to-back. This is what LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly has to say about this game and the next five games.

This will probably be a slow first-half game, gradually becoming steady and ending with an intense ending. The game is Saturday at noon EST.
