It was a battle of two strong teams Friday evening as the 13-4 Oak Hall Eagles took on the 17-4 Trenton Tigers.
It was the second meeting between these two teams in the season, with Oak Hall having taken the first game away 3-1.
This time, at home, Oak Hall came away with a strong 16-6 win.
Hitting Success
Both teams found success at the plate, ending with a combined 29 hits.
The game started off fast, with the Eagles ending the first inning up 6-2. After a strong second inning, the game looked out of reach with the Eagles up 9-2.
The Tigers were able to bounce back in the third with a four-run rally, but that’s where their scoring ended.
The Eagles scored four runs in the fourth and two runs in the sixth, ending the game with a 10-run victory.
Top Performers
Jack Kuzmicki raked for the Eagles, going 4-4 with two RBIs and scoring four runs. He was also able to steal three bases.
Both Jack Steen and Gavin Jones picked up three hits, while Steen was able to drive in four and Jones scored twice.
It was a team effort at the bat rack as eight of the nine Eagles hitters were able to pick up a hit while seven of them had two or more.
Pitching
Troy Freeman was on the mound for the Eagles and was able to go five innings with zero walks and six strikeouts. His final state line showed six runs given up, five of them earned, with 10 hits allowed.
Ethan Szlachetka came in for the 6th inning and finished the game, walking a batter before recording the last three outs.
Next Up
Oak Hall looks to get revenge Tuesday night in their away game against non-district opponent Mount Dora Christian Academy, who beat them 10-4 a few weeks ago. The bats will need to stay hot if they want to finish the season strong.
