Blue Wave Softball Explodes in Second Inning to Send Rams Home

Tuesday night saw the Eastside Rams challenge the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave at home. Prior to the bout, P.K. Yonge held a solid 8-5 record. In addition, they had faced the Rams just a week prior, resulting in an outstanding 15-0 run. The Blue Wave mirrored that dominance and then some against the team, resulting in an impressive 18-0 victory that ended by the top of the third inning.

Quick Start

The Blue Wave established their presence early, not allowing a single hit in the first inning. Continuing to apply pressure, they scored three runs and set the tone for what was to come later on. After closing out the top of the second with only one runner making it on base for the Eagles, the Blue Wave looked to attack.

Offensive Outburst

The Blue Wave came out of the gates hitting hard. The first batter hit a single and quickly stole a base after a catcher error. Then, Senior Ryleigh Ingram hit a triple to send her teammate home. She is followed by yet another hit from Freshman Ashlyn Young that gets her to home plate. They had scored two runs off of three consecutive hits to start the inning, but the onslaught was only beginning. Three more consecutive hits followed soon after before being briefly interrupted by a pop fly. Things were looking grim for the Rams as P.K. Yonge now held a 7-0 lead.

Now, with the opposition looking distraught, P.K. Yonge took advantage. Throughout the inning, they had an outstanding 11 stolen bases, three of those coming at home plate. They pressured the already discouraged Eastside defense, diving for bases when the pitcher turned a blind eye and capitalizing on several missed catches from the defense. Line drives scattered across the field and the bottom of the second and ran for almost 45 minutes by the time P.K. Yonge extended its lead to double digits. Several flustered errors extended the Blue Wave lead to a staggering 18-0 by the end of the inning.

Blue Wave Defeats Rams

After two singles hit in the top of the third, the game was called off from mercy rule and the Blue Wave continued their win streak. The win undoubtedly boosted the girls’ confidence and they will look to carry momentum from this great offensive performance into their next game. Next, the P.K. Yonge girls will travel to Wildwood to play on Tuesday.
