Pat Dooley’s Back Nine (April 10th)

The Back Nine comes at you after a low-key weekend that hopefully for all of you included a great Easter Sunday.

10. Maybe we could get this more often, where The Masters is postponed because of weather and we get a full day of watching the best golf tournament in the world (the Bob Dooley Invitational is second) all day. It kind of made up for a gloomy Saturday. I don’t think the guys in the green jackets would go for that every year, but it was pretty sweet.

11. OK, so I finally got one right, picking Jon Rahm to win this major. Yay me! I had all of these jokes ready about how Brooks Koepka couldn’t handle Sunday because he’s not used to playing 72 holes in tournaments any more, but then how do we explain Phil Mickelson and Patrick Reed. The LIV thing was no big deal because it is Augusta and they cheered for Phil like they were all related to him.

12. Yes, Saturday was not pleasant. I had a whole day planned of being a couch potato after my workout and writing chores. Instead, the softball game was pretty much over after one inning and baseball was over pretty early and The Masters was postponed. The good news is that I got a haircut, bought some pants and watched a movie with my wonderful wife. I know this Saturday will be better as Stop Children’s Cancer annual gala is that night.

13. Speaking of baseball, I don’t know what I would do with Jac Caglianone if I were Kevin O’Sullivan. In his last three starts, he has 17 walks in 7 2/3 innings. At what point do you decide to let him start some mid-week games because he is struggling so much in SEC games? Or do you just work with him to get out of these issues with the walks? That’s why he is the coach. Meanwhile, the homer Cags hit Friday night landed in my backyard.

14. Let’s face it, getting two of three in Knoxville was just fine. Florida is now 27-6 and 9-3 in the league so we are definitely not complaining. Just keep winning each series. FSU Tuesday night here in Gainesville should be one heck of a crowd.

15. I should comment on the Spring Game being Thursday and I will be there to see what they have been doing in secret all these weeks. But let’s face it. You’re really not going to know anything more than you are already thinking. Spring games used to be for the fans. Now, they are for recruiting. And that’s fine. The problem is that the forecast is for rain Thursday night and that will certainly make it less than ideal.

16. Want to send a shout out to lacrosse, the most underappreciated sport on campus. The Gators won again this weekend and are ranked ninth in the country. That’s a good thing.

17. And now we get ready for the NBA Playoffs starting with two play-in games Tuesday and two more Friday. I tuned up by watching my first game of the year Sunday on the second TV so I now know some of the players’ names.

18. No golf this weekend because of the weather and Easter, but I still came up with a playlist because I know how much you all appreciate it. Or not.

* “Honey” by The Lone Bellow.

* I had not heard this song in a while and it’s only for certain moods, but it’s awesome. “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star.

* And for a really old one, “Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)” by the Bee Gees. Sorry, I am a sucker for old Brothers Gibbs songs.
