No. 3 Florida Gators Lacrosse Set to Face Off Against Temple

The Florida Gators Lacrosse team is in Philadelphia this week as they prepare to compete against Temple Owls for the 14th time in match history on Saturday. The Gators are on a hot winning streak against the Owls having beat them 13 times thus far. The Gators hope to keep the streak alive and improve to 9-3 on the season.

Florida’s Last Match

The Gators hosted the No. 23 University of Pennsylvania Quakers on Saturday at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Both teams were neck and neck in an intense top-25 showdown, but the Gators were able to pull off in the final quarter to win, 17-13. Emma LoPinto earned her seventh honor of the season this week for her performance against the Quakers. LoPinto was named AAC attacker of the week after scoring a team-high four goals, three forced turnovers and one assist.

Two additional Florida players earned an American Athletic Conference award: Ashley Gonzalez and freshman Ava Tighe. Gonzalez earned her first honor in her career after a dishing out a career-high seven assists. Tighe earned freshman of the year.

Temple’s Last Match

The Temple Owls are coming in 5-6 on the season after falling to the Cincinnati Bearcats 9-12 Saturday afternoon. The Owls had a slow start, allowing four unanswered goals in the first few minutes of the match. They found themselves trailing the Bearcats the entire match. Senior Belle Mastropietro led the team with two goals and three assists.

Notably, Temple Owls sophomore goalie Taylor Grollman finished the match with ten saves, tying her career high.

What’s Next?

Florida lacrosse will step up to road conference play against the Temple Owls at Howarth Field. The Gators are undefeated in their all-time series against the Owls and look to add another victory. Fans and spectators can watch the live broadcast of the game on ESPN+ at noon.
