With Spring football practice continuing, the Florida Gators have been gradually building on team chemistry and new skill sets. Florida offensive lineman Kingsley Eguakun spoke with the media to discuss how practice has held up. He also spoke on how leadership roles will be of high importance to the performance of the Gators coming into Spring and Fall football.
The Comeback
When Eguakun committed to Florida back in 2018, he set a goal of growing with the team and trying to bring titles home for Florida. In present time, he’s still holding on to that goal.
Eguakun emphasized that he’s still fully committed to finishing his ride in Florida strong. Though last season was quite difficult, it did not impede Eguakun’s overall thoughts on Florida and its ability to rebuild the team.
Eguakun has always been a vocal leader for his team. Despite new players coming in, he’s confident in his ability to demonstrate his leadership skills and pass it on.
Building chemistry isn’t too big of a challenge for Eguakun. With any team, when new players come in, it’s a time for both the players and the staff to build on new chemistry and skill sets.
He said so far in the two spring practices, Florida is looking promising.
Newcomers for Gators
Florida’s new quarterback, Graham Mertz has been most impressive during spring practices. He’s been on target for the majority of his throws with receivers. In addition, his work ethic has also been impressionable for the team.
Florida took a blow with the loss of many key players, so having to replace and rebuild has been the number on challenge on Coach Napier’s list. According to Eguakun, it was tough to lose significant players on the roster, but not all is necessarily lost.
Moving Forward for Gators
Florida will hold 15 spring practices in addition to the Orange and Blue Game, which will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Thursday, April 13.
